A-dec Chair and Delivery Repair

Symptoms we see most on A-dec
A-dec builds equipment to last decades, which means most of what we see is wear parts rather than failures. If any of these sound like your operatory, we have almost certainly fixed it before.
Chair drifts or will not lift
Hydraulic drift, slow lift, or a chair that settles on its own between patients. Usually a valve or seal in the lift cylinder rather than the pump, which keeps the repair far cheaper than practices expect.
Foot control weak or stuck
A-dec disc foot controls lose responsiveness as the internal diaphragm and O-rings wear, or stick so the handpiece will not release. A rebuild kit restores it without replacing the whole control.
Delivery unit whip or holder issues
Weak drive air at the handpiece, a leaking syringe, or holder valves that no longer shut off the water when the handpiece is lifted. Almost always tubing, O-rings or a valve cartridge.
Cuspidor bowl rinse running
On self-contained and city-water cuspidors a running bowl rinse or a cup filler that drips is a timing valve or relay not seating, usually from debris or worn seals.
A-dec light will not hold or flickers
Drift on the arm, a head that will not stay positioned, or an LED that flickers. Arm tension is an adjustment, not a part; a flickering head is usually the driver or switch.
Self-contained water problems
Loss of pressure from the bottle system, or water quality issues after a shutdown. We check the regulator, the pickup and the lines, and set you up on a shocking routine that actually holds.
Check the warranty before you pay for parts
A-dec coverage is among the strongest in the industry, and most practices underestimate what is still on the manufacturer. Depending on when the equipment was bought, chairs and delivery systems commonly carry multi-year coverage on major components, and upholstery and wear items run shorter. Warranty covers the part and excludes labor, which is true of every manufacturer.
Why the serial matters. A-dec warranty status is tied to the serial and the install date, not to how old the chair looks. We have told practices bracing to pay for a valve that the part was covered, so they paid labor only.
Every unit we touch gets its model and serial logged. If a failed part is covered we file the claim and the manufacturer ships it directly, at no charge for the part.
Before you call, find the serial
Two minutes of looking saves a return trip and tells us immediately whether the part is on the manufacturer or on you.
Find the label
On A-dec chairs the serial label is usually on the chair base or the lower back frame. Delivery systems and cuspidors carry their own labels. Each lists a model and serial number.
Photograph it
Take a clear photo of the whole label rather than typing it out, and text it to us with a short description of what the equipment is doing.

We verify warranty status with A-dec, confirm the right part number, and tell you what the visit will cost before we drive out.

Most valve, foot control and delivery repairs are a single visit once the parts are in hand. Sales tax applies to repair labor and parts in New York.
A-dec questions
Is my A-dec chair still under warranty?
A-dec warranties are tied to the serial number and install date, and coverage on major chair and delivery components commonly runs several years. Send us a photo of the serial label and we will check with A-dec before charging you for any part.
Why does my A-dec chair drift down on its own?
Hydraulic drift is normally a valve or seal in the lift cylinder rather than the pump itself. It is a common wear repair and far cheaper than a full cylinder or pump replacement.
My A-dec foot control feels weak. Can it be rebuilt?
Yes. A-dec disc foot controls are designed to be rebuilt. Replacing the internal diaphragm and O-rings restores full response without buying a whole new control.
Do you carry A-dec parts on the truck?
Common valves, O-rings, rebuild kits and syringe cartridges, yes. Anything else is ordered the same day, and the return visit to install it is labor only with the trip charge waived.
